Democrat delegate robbed at gunpoint by masked gunmen in Chicago

A Democratic delegate was robbed at gunpoint while attending the party’s convention in Chicago this week, police have said.
Masked gunmen approached a member of the Texan delegation in the early hours of Wednesday, stealing his wallet and hotel room key.
Several other people have been victims of armed robbery during the week of the convention, despite a large police presence in the city.
Police said masked gunmen were roaming the streets in a Range Rover, approaching victims and threatening them with a gun.
There have been concerns about violence on the streets from pro-Palestine activists, who have burned American flags and clashed with police.
Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for November’s presidential election, used a week of “counter-programming” during the convention to accuse Kamala Harris of presiding over an increase in crime and illegal migration.
He said she was a “police defunder” and “Marxist prosecutor” who would worsen crime and implement “dangerously liberal” policies if she was elected.
Ms Harris has sought to portray herself as tough on crime, pointing to her record as an elected district attorney in California where she also served as a senator before joining Joe Biden’s 2020 Democratic ticket.
Police from across the country were drafted in for this week’s convention, which pro-Palestine demonstrators said they would disrupt with 100,000 activists.
The protests caused larger queues than expected for the first two days but did not disturb the keynote speeches at the city’s United Centre.
However, Ms Harris did come under fire from Palestinian Democrats who said they had been blocked from speaking at the convention. Muslim Women for Harris, a campaign group, said it would disband over the decision.
“This is a terrible message to send to Democrats,” the group said. “Palestinians have a right to speak about Palestine.”
